On January 21, 2012, Jessica Karner was sworn in as President of the Marin County Bar Association at the MCBA Installation Dinner and Fundraiser at the Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross.

On December 6, 2011, Robert Harrison launched the one-day seminar, The Probate Process from Start to Finish, with his presentation, "Taking the First Step: Filing an Estate in Probate Court."  This seminar is sponsored by the National Business Institute and will take place in Santa Rosa, California.

Travis Neal authored an article on a recent securities-fraud case for the Fall/Winter 2011 edition of the ABA Section of Litigation Class Actions and Derivative Suits Newletter entitled, Fraud on the Market is Reaffirmed in Halliburton.

 

October 2011

 

On October 29, 2011, Robert Harrison was one of the speakers at the Cancer Survivorship Conference sponsored by the Cancer Prevention Institute of California and held at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF.

 

On October 26, 2011, the members of the Marin County Bar Association elected the officers and directors for 2012.  Jessica Karner, who is currently serving as President-Elect, will take office as President on January 1, 2012.

 

On October 12, 2011, Stafford Keegin was elected Chair of the Sausalito Planning Commission.

 

August 2011

 

On August 20, 2011, Robert Harrison appeared as a guest on The Best of Investing radio program on KNEW 910 AM, San Francisco.  The Best of Investing airs every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and is hosted by Edward Brown and Mark Hanf.

 

July 2011

 

On July 7, 2011, Nicole Cabalette was appointed Co-Chair of the Business Law Section of the Marin County Bar Association.

 

May 2011

 

On May 5, 2011, Damon Connolly was appointed as the Chair of the Board of the Marin Energy Authority.

Travis Neal authored an article on the land use challenges faced by sober living facilities in California for the May 2011 issue of The Marin Lawyer entitled, The Challenges of Zoning for Sober Living Facilities.

 

Nicole Cabalette authored an article on California law governing noncompete agreements for the May 2011 issue of The Marin Lawyer entitled, What You Need to Know About Noncompete Agreements:  Understanding the Exceptions to California Business and Professions Code Section 16600.

 

March 2011

 

On March 16, 2011, Nicole Cabalette gave a presentation to the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Marin County Bar Association entitled, Title Insurance Considerations in Estate Planning Transfers.

On March 1, 2011, Travis Neal joined Keegin Harrison as an Associate.

 

January 2011

 

On January 24, 2011, Robert Harrison taught the opening session of "Drafting and Designing Revocable Trusts in California," a seven-week continuing education course for attorneys presented by Mentor Legal Drafting Courses and sponsored by the San Francisco Foundation.

 

On January 8, 2011, Jessica Karner was sworn in as President-Elect of the Marin County Bar Association at the MCBA Installation Dinner at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Rafael.

 

December 2010

 

Jeff Schoppert was selected as a co-chair of the City of San Rafael Civic Center SMART Station Area Plan Advisory Committee, which will prepare a land use plan for the area surrounding a new passenger rail station stop near the Marin County Civic Center.

 

November 2010

 

Jeff Schoppert was elected President of the San Rafael Public Library Foundation, a nonprofit organization raising funds to modernize and expand San Rafael's downtown library.

 

September 2010

 

On September 22, 2010, Stafford Keegin was elected Vice-Chair of the Sausalito Planning Commission.

 

On September 14, 2010, Nicole Cabalette participated in a panel presentation on investing in real estate held at Jason's Restaurant in Greenbrae.

 

On September 11, 2010, Robert Harrison spoke about Estate Planning as part of the Cancer Prevention Institute of California's Caregiving, Caregivers and Cancer Conference.  The Conference was held at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center of Stanford University in Palo Alto, and was co-sponsored by the Stanford Cancer Center, Stanford Hospital and Clinics and the Stanford Health Library.

March 2010

Robert Harrison received an honorable mention for his volunteer work with the Legal Counseling Clinic at Whistlestop in San Rafael, and Jeffrey Schoppert and Wendy Wyse were also recognized for their pro bono service on behalf of Legal Aid of Marin.  The awards were presented at Legal Aid of Marin's Pro Bono Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by the Marin County Bar Association at Rickey's Restaurant in Novato.

Paul Smith was featured in a special report for the March 29, 2010 edition of the North Bay Business Journal entitled, Spotlight: Litigation Attorneys and Mediators.

February 2010

On February 25, 2010, Paul Smith and Derek Weller hosted a panel presentation of the Annual Update on Real Estate Law to the Real Property Section of the Marin County Bar Association at the Seafood Peddler in San Rafael. Mr. Smith and Mr. Weller currently serve as Co-Chairs of the Real Property Section.
   
January 2010

On January 30, 2010, Jessica Karner was sworn in as Treasurer of the Marin County Bar Association at the MCBA Installation Dinner at the Mill Valley Community Center.
 
On January 4, 2010, Damon Connolly was elected Vice-Mayor by the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael. Mr. Connolly is currently serving his first term on the San Rafael City Council.
 
December 2009

In December 2009, Robert Harrison was honored for his volunteer work in helping staff the Legal Counseling Clinic at Whistlestop in San Rafael. The clinic offers free consultations with an attorney for senior citizens residing in Marin County. Mr. Harrison has volunteered at Whistlestop since 2005.
 
At the end of 2009, Jeff Schoppert completed his term serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Schoppert served as Board Chair in 2007 and was instrumental in helping the Chamber to develop a more significant political presence by helping to establish two political action committees focused on ballot measures and business-friendly candidates.
 
November 2009

November 17, 2009, The lawyers and staff of Keegin Harrison mourn the passing of our colleague, mentor, friend and partner, Al Bianchi.
 
On November 14, 2009, Matt White participated in the Second Annual Marin County Bar Association CLE Fair. Mr. White served as a co-presenter of the presentation, 10 Dumb Mistakes Smart Lawyers Make in Settlement Conferences. Mr. White also served as moderator of a panel discussion featuring Judge Faye D'Opal, Judge Terrence R. Boren, and Commissioner Beverly K. Wood.
 
On November 14, 2009, Robert Harrison spoke about Estate Planning as part of the Northern California Cancer Center's 3rd Annual Cancer Survivorship Conference. The Conference was held at the Mission Bay Conference Center of UCSF in San Francisco, and was co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the Stanford Cancer Center.
 
Mr. Harrison is co-author of the 2009 update of Complete Plans for Small and Mid-Size Estates, which will be published by California Continuing Education of the Bar in November. Mr. Harrison was a contributing author to the book as well as the 2009 update.
 
October 2009

On October 26, 2009, Robert Harrison was a guest lecturer at the UC Berkeley Extension program, Drafting and Designing Revocable Trusts in California. The program was a seven-week course for attorneys and financial planning professionals, and was held at the UC Berkeley Extension campus in San Francisco.
 
On October 10, 2009, Stafford Keegin, Jessica Karner, Nicole Cabalette and Derek Weller represented the buyer in closing the second of two tranches of a portfolio acquisition of 14 apartment buildings in San Francisco. The first tranche closed on August 26, 2009. The firm was involved in the negotiation of the purchase and sale agreement, the formation of the acquisition special purpose entities, the analysis of title issues and securities compliance matters in connection with this successful transaction.
 
August 2009

On August 7, 2009, Robert Harrison served as moderator and panelist for the CEB Program, Planning the Small and Mid-Sized Estates in San Francisco. Mr. Harrison has previously served as moderator and panelist for the same program in Sacramento.
 
November 2008

Stafford Keegin and Jessica Karner co-authored an article on drafting and negotiating risk allocation provisions in acquisition and other agreements for the November 2008 issue of The Marin Lawyer entitled, Baskets and Snakes: Allocating Risk Through Representation, Warranty and Indemnification Provisions.
